1983 Fall: Volume 42, No. 1, 10 pages
Donald P. Van Court, president
Dewy Albert and Vivian Ertell, had died. The president wrote: “With our old button ‘greats” passing away, new opportunities are created for those of us left behind to adopt their ways, particularly in not hoarding knowledge but scattering it widely by talks, writing, and, yes, books. Unless the button hobby develops a second generation of “greats” it will soon run out of steam, and its organizations and publications disappear. Our best memorials to our past leaders will be to develop a new set of standard bearers, taking advantage of the knowledge now being stored up by some of the younger members of our hobby.“

Ann B. Wilson had these articles in this issue:
Buttoning Up with Classics: Muscatine Stays in Style by Avoiding Fads, from “Stitch”
The Scovill Dies – an After Action Report, two plus pages, by Bruce B. Bazelon, Registrar, PHMC, footnoted
Making Uniform Button Dies, by Donald P. Van Court. “Bazelon claims the artisans at Scovill created the master hob (male) first. Waterbury craftsmen appear to have preferred making the female first…”
